~ The Little Mermaid ~

There was a little mermaid
who wished she had some feet.
She sat upon her rock all day
Just looking really sweet.
She watched the children laugh and play,
make castles in the sand.
And how she wished that she could run,
a bucket in her hand.

Washed up with the tide one day
an old tin lamp she found,
a little rusty, dented too with
seaweed wrapped around.
She rubbed it, then a puff of smoke!
She couldn’t believe her eyes,
when right out popped a genie!
Imagine her surprise.

He said “Hello young maiden,
and what would be your wish?”
She said, “You’ll grant me anything?
I hate being a fish!”
“Please let me have two legs and feet
as other children do,
and I will do just anything
you want for me to do”

He granted her the wish and then
said she could have two more,
but she was on her way and running
fast along the shore.
A little girl just came along
and picked up that old lamp,
again the genie showed himself
though feeling rather damp.

Again offering his services,
the little girl did wish
to be a pretty mermaid
and swim amongst the fish, well
that was leaving just one wish,
(Which didn’t help a stack!)
as then but only ONE of them
Could get their true self back!

A little boy was watching and he
heard the two girls’ fight
He said, “Oh this is just too much”
“Well I’ll just put things right!”
“I wish you’d both be starfish,
so then you couldn’t moan!”
He put them in his bucket,
and took the starfish home.

~ The Most Amazing Mermaid ~

Her tail moved with the greatest speed,
like you have never seen.
She was the fastest swimmer
and could beat a submarine!
She’d do Aquatic water sports
and kept so very fit,
but Pumping iron she didn’t do,
She couldn’t get the kit.

Instead she lifted heavy rocks,
her muscles to develop.
She’d skip with seaweed skipping ropes,
then luncheon with a scallop,
she was so very much admired by
Mermen of the sea, so
So captivated by her charm,
though sub normality.

She got King Neptune in her special
Gym Aquamarine,
then showed him how to work out too,
and soon became his Queen, as
Soon he fell in love with her
Their Wedding was divine,
adorned with riches from the sea
she looked so really fine.

A Nice Dressed crab was her best man,
A Lobster maid of honour, with
Shoals of pretty seahorses and
Tropical rasbora.
They lived a long and happy life,
you wonder how I know?
A message in a bottle on the
Sandy shore said so.

~ The Little Seahorse ~

There was a little Seahorse and he really couldn't swim.
He'd never really learnt the Art, so wore a rubber ring.
The others in the shoal you know, they really laughed away
which made him so disheartened he felt the urge to stray.

He'd swim with all his family but always felt left out.
He couldn't always quite keep up, so sad without a doubt, but
One fine day he'd had enough. He really must break free,
so hid behind some coral then parted company.

He didn't quite know what to do or where he should begin, but
knew about the dangers of that ocean he was in.
He thought he'd journey upwards as he longed to see the sun.
He'd spent his little life down deep so that might be quite fun!

So Twirling and a spiralling he lunged his body high.
He got a little dizzy then he thought he'd hit the sky! ...
but no, he'd banged his little head upon a massive rock, then
next thing he was scooped out from the water - What a Shock!

His little eyes shone brightly as he shyly gazed around.
He was a touch bewildered as he'd heard the sweetest sound.
It was the most angelic tune he'd had the luck to hear, when
in the shortest moment a mermaid did appear.

She tended him with loving care, looked after him so well.
He'd lost his rubber ring somehow but knew not how to tell.
He thought this Princess of the sea would think him such a fool,
until he realised where he was ... yes, swimming in a pool!


The mermaid kept this seahorse like a child with her first pet.
He felt no discontentment now, more love he couldn't get!
He thought about his family, and how their words did sting.
so happy now he'd started life with just a rubber ring.
